Myra's Ruru

This morning Myra brought in this beautiful Morepork (Ruru) which unfortunately swooped down and flew into her window at home.  It really made me think how precious our native birds are.  I know that lots of New Zealand's native birds are under threat and many are very close to extinction.  I am very proud that at Waipahihi School we trying to bring back the 'bird song'.
It was such a privilege to see the Ruru close up and touch it's delicate feathers.  I am left wondering... I wonder how many Ruru are left in New Zealand?  I wonder how you tell the difference between a male and a female?  Does anyone know the answers to my wonderings....

New Native Plants for our gardens.

Riley went to his Grandmas last week. He helped with planting in her shade house.
Grandma gave Riley some native plants to gift to the school.
The Enviro Group can work out what kind of plants they are and decide on the best place to plant them.
Thanks Grandma Margret.

Looking after our Gardens

The busy Enviro Warriors in room 20 have been working hard in the garden.

Sally took a group of children to Mitre 10 Mega to purchase plants that were suitable for this time of the year. We already have tomatoes and snow peas in the garden (some ready to eat). They sowed carrots and radish seeds, planted more snow peas and gave the garden a good weed and turn.

We should have a vegetable growing competition this year. Who is keen for that?

Watch this space as our new vegetables grow.
